Formally trained as an illustrator, John worked as an art director for a brief period before he made the career move into the world of fine art.
John credits Michael Linstrom, a renowned South Bay California artist and talented master of color as his mentor, valued teacher and friend.
Just as importantly, the influence of retired Hollywood set painter, Duncan A. Spencer as an instructor in the art of plein air painting was instrumental in John's growth as an artist as they worked side by side in the beautiful countryside of Yosemite National Park.
John has had studios in: Sonoma County California, SE Asia, the Middle East and now in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
John's work was primarily painted in oils, but now he works mostly with acrylics. Drawing using graphite or charcoal, along with chalk pastels are also mediums he enjoys working with.
John is currently working on a new body of work to express his love of the majestic beauty of the Hawaiian Islands.
